Description of this Report

This report displays the number of U.S. patents distributed by state and country of origin. The origin of a patent is determined by the residence of the first-named inventor.

This report counts documents of the following type(s):

utility patents (i.e., "patents for invention"), design patents, plant patents, reissue patents, statutory invention registrations, defensive publications granted by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office during the period 01/01/1977 - 12/31/2007. These profiled documents hereafter will be referred to as "patents".

The source of the data used for this report is the TAF database maintained by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

This report can be printed from an Internet browser - for such printing, optimal results are usually obtained by printing in landscape orientation with minimal margins and a small text font.
